What is legacy?

Legacy is a gift received through a will after the death of a person.

वसीयत वह दान (gift) होती है जो किसी व्यक्ति की वसीयत (Will) के माध्यम से उसकी मृत्यु के बाद किसी Not-for-Profit Organisation (NPO) को प्राप्त होती है।

In simple words:

When someone writes in their will that a certain amount or asset should be given to an NGO or trust after their death, it is called Legacy.

सरल शब्दों में:

अगर कोई व्यक्ति अपनी वसीयत में यह लिखकर जाता है कि उसकी मृत्यु के बाद कुछ धनराशि या संपत्ति किसी संगठन को दी जाए, तो उसे लेगसी कहा जाता है।

Mr. Sharma writes in his will: “After my death, Rs. 5,00,000 should be donated to XYZ NGO.”

After his death, the NGO receives the money. This is called Legacy.

श्री शर्मा अपनी वसीयत में लिखते हैं कि उनकी मृत्यु के बाद ₹5,00,000 XYZ NGO को दान दिए जाएं। जब उनके निधन के बाद यह राशि संगठन को मिलती है, तो यह Legacy कहलाती है।

Legacy is NOT shown in the Income & Expenditure Account

(लेगसी को आय और व्यय खाते में नहीं दिखाया जाता)

It is added to the Capital or General Fund in the Balance Sheet
